Work to begin on last stage of Ill.'s $1.6B rail project

The last phase of construction for the $1.658 billion rail-transit project in Springfield, Ill., will start this week. Work will include bridge improvements, crossing enhancements, construction of siding and track upgrades. Of the total project value, nearly $1.4 billion was committed by the federal government, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
