Waivers allow immigrant students to continue bilingual education

Although Massachusetts voters approved a law last year replacing bilingual education over several years with English-only immersion instruction, a waiver provision is enabling some foreign-born students to continue taking courses in their native language. Efforts by school districts in the Boston area to educate parents about the waiver option have been uneven.
