Congress, SEC begin investigations into Chiron flu vaccine cancellation

Congress and the SEC are taking separate steps to investigate the shortage of flu vaccine this season as a result of the cancellation of Chiron's planned contribution of half of the U.S. supply. Committees in each house of Congress requested FDA records to determine the agency's involvement in the vaccine shortage, while the SEC joined other federal agencies in exploring a possible cover-up of problems on the part of Chiron. Company officials said Chiron was cooperating with the investigation.
