Venture giants predict woes for ad-based plays

Leading Silicon Valley venture capital firms are telling ad-based startups that tough times are ahead, says tech reporter and entrepreneur Om Malik. He quotes UBS analyst Ben Schachter, who wrote in a note to clients: "[W]e see no business model based on advertising or consumer spending that will be immune to a downturn."
