Attorneys general across the U.S. did not call for a national moratorium of foreclosures, but they did join forces to launch an investigation into the issue. Mortgage-loan servicers have been accused of providing shoddy paperwork in foreclosure cases. Lenders say the issues are technical and do not reflect any substantive problems. Officials are first trying to determine the scale of the problem and then how to resolve it.
