Long Beach students show off salad bar, organic garden

Fremont Elementary School in Long Beach, Calif., got kudos from HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for its nutrition program, which includes a new salad bar, organic garden and a curriculum featuring taste, nutrition and cooking. Students chanted "Salad! Salad! Salad!" during the event, and Sebelius told the group that many children get half of their daily calories from food eaten at school.
