Think tanks urge U.S. lawmakers to carve new climate, energy direction

A report from three U.S. think tanks calls for "post-partisan" energy legislation that will rid any new climate bill of the controversial cap-and-trade program. "The entire climate and energy agenda that we've been talking about for several years now has hit a dead end, so it's time to hit the reset button," said Steven Hayward, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and one of the authors of the study. The U.S. must raise its spending on green technology and energy research to about $25 billion, instead of subsidizing non-innovative energy projects, the report said.
