Recent studies raise questions about use of supplements

Recent study data have suggested that vitamins and supplements may not be beneficial and may even be harmful in some cases. Duffy MacKay, a vice president for the industry trade group Council for Responsible Nutrition, cautions that studies are released and publicized so quickly that the scientific community often doesn't have time to evaluate them fully. He also said people should remember that dietary supplements are to be taken in addition to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
