Prolonged periods of sitting increase diabetes, mortality risk

A review of 18 studies found that sitting for long periods was associated with a higher risk of diabetes, heart disease and early death, even when people exercised. Writing in the journal Diabetologia, researchers underscored the importance of lowering overall sitting hours and breaking up the time with standing or walking.
