Nikki Walker, managing director of inclusion diversity and sustainability for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia at Cisco Systems, said "talent management needs to be central to an organization's strategy." However, as noted in the article "Talent pipeline draining growth: Connecting human capital to the growth agenda," only 41% of companies are confident that their human-capital strategy is truly embedded in their organization's strategy. Business leaders should be developing relevant human-capital metrics and key performance indicators aligned to support and implement the organization's strategy. "Too many organizations still dismiss talent management as a short-term, tactical problem rather than an integral part of a long-term business strategy requiring the attention of top-level management and substantial resources," Walker said.
