AAFP calls on Congress to reopen government, raise debt limit

The AAFP wrote to congressional leaders asking them to reopen the government and raise the U.S. debt ceiling, saying the partial shutdown could have lasting effects on the nation's health. The letter from AAFP Board Chair Jeff Cain, M.D., also noted testimony from Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew that said not raising the debt ceiling would create payment uncertainty among physicians treating Medicare patients.
