Advanced biofuels are getting closer to the marketplace

Although the advanced-biofuels industry has not grown as fast as initially predicted, the first commercial-scale plants are beginning to open, writes Bryan Walsh. For example, Novozymes and Beta Renewables just opened the world's biggest advanced-biofuels plant in Italy. The plant is expected to produce more than 20 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol from farm residues and energy crops annually.
