China's inflation increases to 3.1%

China's year-on-year consumer price index rose 3.1% in September from 2.6% in August, slightly above the forecast range but under the government ceiling of 3.5% for the year. Although special factors are cited for the increase, the gain also reflects China's growing money supply and credit, which analysts say could constitute another restraining factor as the government tries to balance the economy.
