Google plans to tap user data for social ads, raising privacy concerns

Google is following Facebook into the controversial field of social ads that incorporate user images and information. Critics say these types of ads raise privacy issues and, in Google's case, the Federal Trade Commission has been asked to review whether the ads violate a 2011 consent order in which Google was barred from retroactively changing users' privacy settings.
