Pumpkin flinging tests engineering ingenuity

Trebuchets, robots and plain old slingshots assembled by students at the Illinois Institute of Technology came together Saturday for the annual pumpkin-flinging competition. This year's contest drew a record 12 entries, with an 18-foot-tall floating-arm trebuchet designed by two mechanical engineering seniors taking the distance honors at 361 feet.
