Southern California District Considers Secession From L.A. Unified

A local ballot initiative could carve the Southern California city of Carson's schools out of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Proponents say LAUSD has not provided enough improvement or support, while opponents say the move would exacerbate an already bad teacher shortage when Carson teachers opt to stay with LAUSD. The last school district to secede from L.A. was Torrance, in 1948.
