Minneapolis bridge replacement effort faces diverse challenges

Preliminary work on the replacement of the collapsed I-35W bridge in Minneapolis has started, but construction won't get into full swing until the debris from the old bridge is removed. Some considerations that challenge engineers in the rebuild include the need to protect three historic properties near the site and a requirement from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that the rebuild should have no effect on the mussel's or any other critical habitat.
