Report: U.S. pregnancy-related deaths higher than those in Europe

The U.S. maternal death rate is about one woman in 4,800 dying from pregnancy or childbirth complications, compared to fewer than one in 16,400 for top European and developed countries. Blood clots, hemorrhage, eclampsia and pre-eclampsia, and complications of medical conditions are the main direct causes of U.S. pregnancy-related deaths.
