Advances in computer graphics have hastened the spread of 3-D imaging to fashion, dentistry and other industries. For one swimsuit designer, a $35,000 scanner that takes 140 measurements in less than a minute allows her to easily make bespoke bathing suits and gives her customers a realistic preview before a needle ever hits Lycra.
