Tokyo shares advance while other Asian markets decline

Most stock markets in Asia dropped today, although a late buying burst helped Tokyo's Nikkei 225 Average rebound to rise 1.1%. The broader Topix slid 0.1%, the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong dropped 5%, and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 6.4%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gave up 0.8%, New Zealand's NZX 50 index slipped 1.5%, and South Korea's Kospi lost 2% while Singapore's Straits Times index fell 3.6%. Taiwan's Taiex edged down 0.9%, and India's Sensex was down 5.4% in afternoon trading.
