States scramble for high-speed rail funds

Lawmakers from across the country made the case for high-speed rail at a Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee hearing this week. The Transportation Department received requests for $60 million in funding for high-speed rail but has only $8 billion available. Forty states and Washington, D.C., applied for the federal funds.
