Attempted bomber appears in federal court

A Nigerian man charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas day appeared in federal court in Detroit this week. During the hearing, U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds ordered prosecutors to share information with an attorney who is serving as standby counsel for Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. Abdulmutallab is representing himself and has indicated he will plead guilty to some charges.
