Utah will decide on blended nuclear-waste storage

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has allowed Utah to decide whether to permit the storage of blended nuclear waste in the state. The agency's ruling is "a good sign," said Peter Jenkins, chairman of the state's Radiation Control Board. The NRC acknowledges that "the one-size-fits-all classification system is not suitable for all waste sites," he added.
