Even with fiscal fixes, the U.S. economy could suffer

The U.S. will face a series of tough economic challenges in coming months, even if lawmakers manage to avoid the looming "fiscal cliff," experts say. The expiration of a payroll tax cut, the end of unemployment benefits and sharp reductions in government spending would combine to slow the economy as much as any previous government action for at least half a century, according to a Moody's analysis.
