Bernanke: Steady growth requires central bank independence

Policymaking independence at U.S. and Mexican central banks has been key to promoting stability and economic growth, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke says. "As in Mexico, the benefits of central bank independence in the United States have included low inflation, well-anchored inflation expectations and increased policy credibility, which contribute to a more stable overall economic environment," he said.
