Job seekers need a clear plan and the right tools -- such as references, a clean resume and customized cover letters -- to land a new job, writes Lynne Sarikas, director of the MBA Career Center at Northeastern University. Sarikas advises job seekers to research a target list of at least 50 potential employers, and always send a handwritten thank-you note after an interview. "It's one of the simplest -- yet most effective -- ways to stand out from the crowd," Sarikas concludes.
