Promotions, praise are rare at Amazon

Common complaints among Amazon workers include a lack of positive feedback or promotions, writes Brad Stone, author of "The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon." Bezos, the company's CEO, apparently believes that only exceptional talent should progress, Stone writes. The company uses biannual review meetings where managers argue the strengths and weaknesses of each employee, approve promotions and target bad performers who need to be fired, he writes.
