Shutdown could jeopardize public housing construction

The 16-day federal government shutdown has some local housing officials worried about delays in future public housing projects. The Department of Housing and Urban Development must grant funding or approvals for some projects, and the agency could face a backlog as it tries to catch up on its work. Funding for most major federal affordable-housing programs, however, remained in place during the shutdown.
