SoftBank's Gungho Online Entertainment unit has purchased a majority stake in Supercell Oy, the maker of the "Clash of Clans" and "Hay Day" games. The deal values Supercell at $3 billion, surpassing game rival Zynga, Sophie Knight, Ritsuko Ando and Malathi Nayak write. "SoftBank is trying to use Supercell's content to increase subscribers for Sprint," with whom it has struck a deal, Ace Research Institute's Hideki Yasuda says. Hudson Square Research's Daniel Ernst says that though investing in a particular game franchise is risky, Supercell is nonetheless "a talented team."
