When children die, families can need support for years

Hospice care and services benefit not only children but their parents, whose recovery after the death of a child can take 15 years, said Dr. James Avery, CEO of Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville, Va. The hospice is adding pediatric end-of-life care for children and families in its new Center for Children, slated to open in January.
