Roundup competition hurts Monsanto's performance

Monsanto posted a fourth-quarter loss of $188 million as it struggled with its signature Roundup herbicide, the best-selling farm chemical in the world. Since Monsanto's patent on Roundup's key ingredient expired in 2000, the company has cut prices to remain competitive, but products from Dow Chemical and DuPont are cutting into the company's market share.
