Labor Department says producer-price index down again

For the second consecutive month, the Labor Department reported a drop in wholesale prices. Officials said the producer-price index declined 0.4% in September partially because of steep declines in energy costs. Core-wholesale prices, which do not include energy and food costs, increased by 0.4%. Analysts had predicted the decline in wholesale prices but expected core-wholesale prices to rise by only 0.2%.
