Federal contracts are credited with creating, saving 30,000 jobs

The 9,000 businesses that received government contracts so far under the Obama administration's $787 billion economic-stimulus package saved or created about 30,000 jobs, the White House said. The number includes only jobs directly related to the contracts and does not consider broader benefits from stimulating the economy, officials said. Reports on a much bigger portion of the stimulus covering about 100,000 grants and loans are scheduled for release later this month.
