Leap Wireless is still standing but probably not for long term

The mobile industry's latest game of musical chairs has left prepaid provider Leap Wireless still standing alone, largely because its mainly rural-based spectrum is seen as less advantageous than rival carriers' frequencies. Substantial debt, a reluctant majority shareholder and a sluggish core business have also discouraged suitors, a report suggests. But long term, the dwindling number of carriers will likely make Leap a compelling target.
