13-year-old inspires N.Y. donor registration law

Lauren Shields of Stony Point, N.Y., a 13-year-old who underwent a heart transplant, has inspired an organ, tissue donation law to enhance donor registration in the state. Also known as Lauren's Law, the legislation requires people renewing their driver's license, nondriver's ID card or learner's permit to fill out the Donate Life Registry section on the application form. The requirement is expected to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation.
