Analysis: Lowering 2014 RFS targets would harm economy, environment

The oil industry's "dream scenario" of lowering the conventional-biofuel portion of the 2014 Renewable Fuel Standard from 14.4 billion gallons to 13 billion gallons would be unlawful as well as damaging to the economy and environment, writes Geoff Cooper, vice president of research and analysis for the Renewable Fuels Association. Reducing the target would drive down farm incomes, push up retail gasoline prices, increase pollution, jeopardize thousands of jobs, drive away investment in biofuel infrastructure and stifle the growth of advanced biofuels, Cooper states.
