Common core ushers change into Colo. classrooms

Some school districts in Colorado gradually have transitioned to the Common Core State Standards, but this year -- the deadline for making the switch -- officials expect some challenges in the classroom. High-school math teacher Zachary Rowe said the common core has led to a "huge shift" in teaching, planning and assessing. "We've moved away from naked problems -- solving for X for the sake of solving for X -- and getting into, 'Why am I learning this?' " Rowe said.
