MapBox receives investment to stay competitive, expand

Washington-based startup MapBox, a Google Maps and Esri competitor, scored $10 million in venture capital funding to expand its team. MapBox's founders say the software is cheaper for companies and more reliable because of its use of open data from OpenStreetMap.org. The company eventually hopes to offer a wide variety of maps packages, CEO Eric Gundersen says.
