Officials: Businesses have secured $40M through N.Y. surety-bonding program

Construction businesses have secured $40 million in surety bonds through a New York state program that began last year, the governor's office said. In addition, state contracts with minority- and women-owned businesses have increased to 21.6%, compared with 9.2% in 2011, as a result of changes to New York's contracting process, officials said. Contracts with such businesses were worth $1.48 billion during the 2012-13 fiscal year, officials said.
