Patients need to adapt diet after ileostomy, dietitian says

Patients with an ileostomy may have to adjust their diets based on whether they had a continent- or incontinent-style procedure to remove part of the small intestine, in addition to how much healthy small intestine remains and how it has adapted, Mayo Clinic registered dietitian Jennifer Nelson writes. She recommends that ileostomy patients eat meals at regular times, drink plenty of fluids each day and learn how foods affect the stool.
