Facebook to ramp up Net-safety efforts

Facebook, as part of a settlement with New York State prosecutors of allegations it misrepresented itself as a safe Net destination, will beef up its online warnings about potential danger to minors and increase its response time to user complaints about inappropriate sexually explicit communications. The social-networking site also has agreed to the use of an independent monitor to follow its response to complaints and issue a twice-yearly report to Facebook and the state attorney general.
