General Motors, ebay and Tesla all have announced they are cutting jobs, and that has Bob Sutton recalling the lessons of layoffs. This is, of course, an opportunity to prune dead wood, he says, but beware the tendency to inadvertently banish creativity by axing everyone who is a little odd. "Take a close look at the people you are keeping versus those you are cutting," he urges. "Are you unwittingly protecting the clones, those people just like your favorite person -- yourself?"
