Women and men really do want different things, and that could be the primary reason more women don't lead large, successful businesses, writes Margaret Wente. "Human nature is malleable. But on the whole, female ambition really is different from male ambition," she explains. "Women want challenging work, so long as it's compatible with having close personal relationships." Wente also notes evolution and culture have shaped female ambition, and while women can accomplish anything they set their minds to, being a boss is just one way of contributing to the "human project."
