Evaluation requirement is removed from latest version of NCLB

A bipartisan agreement to reform No Child Left Behind eliminates a controversial requirement for states to develop teacher and principal evaluation systems. However, Education Secretary Arne Duncan said a "comprehensive evaluation system based on multiple measures, including student achievement, is essential for education reform to move forward" and "we can't retreat from reform." The evaluation requirement was opposed by education groups, including the National Education Association.
