Veterinarian specializes in whale necropsies

In an effort to understand whale deaths, veterinarian Michael Moore, who is also a whale biologist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, regularly performs necropsies on whales, mostly endangered right whales, that are victims of ship collisions or fishing line entanglements. Dr. Moore's most recent case involved a whale that starved to death after a gunshot caused an infection in its jaw that festered for weeks before the animal died.
