Zoo's polar bear undergoes surgery at U. of Minn.

Veterinarians at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center performed abdominal surgery on Berlin, the female polar bear who briefly escaped her Lake Superior Zoo enclosure after it flooded this summer. They found evidence of prior abdominal bleeding as well as a necrotic mass. Surgery was performed because Berlin, who now lives at the Como Park Zoo, began acting lethargic and vomiting and an endoscopy, ultrasound and X-rays were inconclusive.
