Audiences flock to cable news nets for end of federal shutdown

Cable news networks on Wednesday attracted bigger-than-normal audiences as viewers tuned in for the resolution of the government shutdown. Fox News Channel during prime time garnered an average audience of 2.2 million viewers and 489,000 among the 25-to-54 demographic, increases of 50% and 20%, respectively, compared to second-quarter averages. Meanwhile, CNN saw its audience hit 1.27 million overall and 375,000 among the 25-to-54 group, and MSNBC had 1.36 million viewers and 338,000 in the demo.
