Diabetes may serve as better marker than BMI for weight-loss procedure

Age and type 2 diabetes diagnosis were the most significant predictors of a patient's 10-year death risk, while BMI appeared to be the least significant marker, a study indicated. The findings indicate that diabetes may be a more important factor in deciding which patients should undergo weight-loss surgery, researchers wrote in JAMA Surgery.
