Genetic testing yields fears, hopes for one mother

23andMe's Anne Wojcicki believes that offering personal genetic testing directly to consumers allows people to be proactive about their health. The author of this article sent a saliva sample from her adopted Ethiopian daughter for analysis and found the child has genetic mutations associated with a high risk for Alzheimer's disease, but the child has also been matched with other adopted children who may be her distant cousins. The author discusses 23andMe's mission to create a massive genetic database and her own reaction to knowing her daughter's risk profile.
