N.C. students learn what it takes to lead

Recycling, collecting toiletries for the homeless and reading to first-graders are among the service-learning projects undertaken by middle- and high-school students in a North Carolina district. Students are recommended by a teacher for the yearlong student leadership classes, which focus on public speaking, conflict resolution, decision-making and other areas.
